Optical Hardware Engineer (m/f/d)

• Lead the CoCa instrument AIV.
• Capture and review all requirements related to the CoCa AIV and follow their implementation, with a particular focus on optical and radiometric requirements.
• Implementation and commissioning of the cleanroom laboratory facilities at the institute, which will be used for the integration, optical alignment, and calibration of CoCa.
• Follow and review the manufacture and testing of the CoCa telescope assembly, provided by Swiss Industry.
• Follow and review other relevant sub-system AIV activities, performed by European consortium partners, e.g., the camera detector.
• Maintain the required documentation (e.g., AIV plans, lab commissioning procedures, test procedures and reports).
• Coordinate CoCa AIV activities through efficient collaboration with the mechanical and test engineers at the institute.
• Support MANiaC AIV activities through coordination of the use of the cleanroom and other laboratory facilities.
• Handle space instrumentation during AIV (according to ESD standards and in an ISO 5 cleanroom environment)

The position requires a degree in optical/mechanical/systems engineering or associated fields, with substantial experience in the assembly, integration, testing and verification of complex optical hardware. A background in optics is mandatory. Familiarity with the space industry and environment, as well as with ECSS standards, would be an advantage.
Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of German would be an advantage but is not a requirement.

The position is based on-site at the University of Bern (Sidlerstrasse 5, CH-3012, Bern). It is available immediately and guaranteed for a period of two years. Extensions to this period are possible pending funding of future projects but are not guaranteed. The salary range is determined based on qualifications and experience in accordance with the personnel regulations of the Canton of Bern.
